چکیده

An efficient method for utilising a two-dimensional camera to recognise hand gestures in three-dimensional space is described. The work is presented within the context of a recuperation aid for younger children with impaired movement of the upper limbs. The application is designed for use on a standard Android tablet device in the home, as part of an interactive storybook, so the algorithms are necessarily efficient. The hand movement recognition is achieved through the attachment of brightly coloured models to the child's fingers which serve the dual purpose of providing easily trackable elements of the image, and encouraging the child to regard the application as a game rather than a chore. The application promotes repeated use of specific hand skills identified by the medical profession to stimulate and assess rehabilitation of patients with impaired upper limb dexterity. © 2013 Newcastle University. Hand Gesture Recognition from RGB-D Data using 2D and 3D Convolutional Neural Networks: a comparative study

Despite considerable enhances in recognizing hand gestures from still images, there are still many challenges in the classification of hand gestures in videos. The latter comes with more challenges, including higher computational complexity and arduous task of representing temporal features. Hand movement dynamics, represented by temporal features, have to be extracted by analyzing the total fr...

Quantative Evaluation of the Efficiency of Facial Bio-potential Signals Based on Forehead Three-Channel Electrode Placement For Facial Gesture Recognition Applicable in a Human-Machine Interface

Introduction: Today, facial bio-potential signals are employed in many human-machine interface applications for enhancing and empowering the rehabilitation process. The main point to achieve that goal is to record appropriate bioelectric signals from the human face by placing and configuring electrodes over it in the right way. In this paper, heuristic geometrical position and configuration of ...

Predictive Value of Somatosensation for Manual Dexterity and Upper Limb Motor Function in Stroke Survivors

Objectives: One of the most disabling impairments following stroke is upper limb impairment. Despite the important role of somatosensory function in motor control and high prevalence of somatosensory deficits in stroke survivors, little attention has been paid to its effect on UE motor function in chronic stroke survivors. Thus, the aim of this study is to explore the correlation between differ...

3D Hand Motion Evaluation Using HMM

Gesture and motion recognition are needed for a variety of applications. The use of human hand motions as a natural interface tool has motivated researchers to conduct research in the modeling, analysis and recognition of various hand movements. In particular, human-computer intelligent interaction has been a focus of research in vision-based gesture recognition. In this work, we introduce a 3-...
